Elizabeth River Chapter

The origin of the Elizabeth City Chapter is unique in that a Group of like-minded ladies realizing the need for giving Special attention to the at-risk youth in the Hampton Roads and Elizabeth City areas made a conscious decision to that end.  This idea staunchly reflects one of the goals instituted by the national body of Les Gemmes,Incorporated.  Realizing that we might be able to reach more of these lost youth by working together.  Under the guidance of Wanetah Benn Davis, our interest group was formed.  The interest group was chartered in Washington, D.C.,at the Channel Inn Hotel, April 11, 1997.  The name of the chapter was later changed to the Elizabeth River Chapter.

The chapter has established the Wanetah Benn Davis Scholarship Foundation in recognition of its founder.  This scholarship is given annually to a graduating senior pursuing a college degree.

The charter members of the Elizabeth River Chapter are as follows:

Ida Brown, Maria Cross, Margie Haynes, Juanita Collins, Laurice Yarn, Alyce Bess, Cassandra Goodsby, Brenda Fayton, Charlina Hadi, Willie Mae King, Barbara Johnson, and Lydia Toliver.
