During the 2024-2026 administration, The Benevolent Baltimore Chapter held a 50th Anniversary Celebration on October 5, 2024 at Martins West. We took the opportunity to honor three members with 50 years of service to the community and one member with 46 years.
We mailed out postcards to citizens in the Battleground states encouraging them to vote in October 2024. We participated in the Domestic Violence and Breast Cancer Awareness National activities for 2024 and 2025.
We had an amazing fundraiser, Beats-n-Bingo, to help raise funds for the 6 scholarships that were given to Baltimore City Public School HS students in May 2025.
We will continue to implement activities for each Dream Initiative. In addition, we will continue to work with the Children’s Home and Baltimore City Public Schools. We plan to continue to support the unhoused community by working with the Salvation Army and Zero Tolerance for Hunger. As well as, striving to award more scholarships to Baltimore City Public School students.
Chapter President’s Message
It is my honor to serve as the president of the Baltimore Chapter of Les Gemmes, Incorporated. The Benevolent Baltimore Chapter has served the community well for over fifty years. During the 2024-2026 club year, we have implemented the national programs with enthusiasm and deep commitment. The National Dream Initiative includes Economic Assistance, Youth Mentoring, Literary Arts, Senior Support and Healthy Lifestyles.
We’ve implemented many activities in support of these dreams. Our chapter continued to work with students in the community. We also provided scholarships to high school students in Baltimore City Public Schools.
In support of the Literary Arts Dream, We have started writing letters to our younger selves to be published. In conjunction with Youth Mentoring, we have started a reading/tutoring club at a local high school.
Senior Support– Members supported seniors in their families and the community by providing gifts, making telephone calls and visits, and taking them out to lunch and church.
Domestic Violence– Members supported The House of Ruth by supplying a monetary gift through a 50/50 raffle. We also supported the National initiative through a webinar in October.
Healthy Lifestyles– Members participated in many activities both locally and nationally. We participated in walks, runs, and chair exercises, leisurely and competitively. We also donated funds to support survivors of Breast Cancer through a 50/50 raffle as well. We participated in Healthy Heart Activities.
Our chapter provided funds and food items to The Zero Tolerance for Hunger Project to help the unhoused and hungry.
These are just a small sample of the community work that our chapter has implemented. If you love people and have a heart for giving back to the community, please consider participating in an interest session to learn more about the Baltimore Chapter.
Sisterly,
Chinedum Nwaobasi-McMillan
